VW officially launched the ID. Polo 2027: Everything about the new electric generation that starts at 25.000 euros

The New Volkswagen ID. Polo 2027 Has Been Launched: The 25,000 Euro Revolution That Wants to Retake the Cities

WOLFSBURG – The era of the “people’s car” is getting a new electric chapter. After a teasing campaign that kept fans in suspense, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the new ID. Polo (2027). It’s not just another model in the ID range, but the electric heir to a legend that has defined the subcompact class for half a century.

With a starting price of 24,995 euros (in the German market), the new ID. Polo becomes the most affordable entry ticket into the electric universe of the Wolfsburg manufacturer, promising to democratize sustainable mobility without compromising on style or technology.

Design: Goodbye sharp angles, hello "Pure Positive"

If you were expecting a classic battery-powered Polo, get ready for a surprise. The only thing the old Polo and the new ID. Polo share is the name on the tailgate. Designed under the new “Pure Positive” visual language by the team led by Andreas Mindt, the ID. Polo is a refined evolution of the ID.2all concept.

The exterior abandons artificial aggressiveness in favor of fluid lines and "clean" surfaces.

  • Luminous identity: The front is dominated by the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, united by a light strip that integrates the illuminated VW logo.
  • Aerodynamic profile: The rear door handles are hidden in the pillars, giving the car a coupe look, while the up to 19-inch wheels give it a robust stance.
  • Compact dimensions, big presence: With a length of 4,053 mm and a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, the ID. Polo promises urban maneuverability without sacrificing interior space.

Inside: Listening to the Voice of Customers (And Physical Buttons!)

Volkswagen seems to have learned the lesson of the criticism received by the first ID models. The interior of the new ID. Polo marks the return of physical buttons under the 13-inch central screen and on the steering wheel, a move already welcomed by enthusiasts.

Technology and Comfort

  • Screens: A 10-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver and a massive multimedia system, inspired by the ID.3 Neo.
  • Audio System: For music lovers, a Harman Kardon system with 10 speakers and subwoofer is available.
  • ID. Light innovation: The light strip on the dashboard now extends to the doors, visually warning the driver if another vehicle or cyclist is approaching when trying to open the door.
  • Record space: The trunk offers an impressive volume of 441 liters, considerably exceeding the thermal version and even some models in the higher class.

Performance: Three flavors of electric power

Built on the MEB+ platform, the new ID. Polo adopts front-wheel drive and comes equipped with three engine variants to satisfy both urban commuters and those looking for extra dynamism.

Trim Level Power Battery Capacity Battery Type Range (WLTP)
Entry-Level 116 HP 37 kWh (net) LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) ~329 km
Mid-Range 135 HP 37 kWh (net) LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) ~329 km
Performance 211 HP 52 kWh (net) NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) 454 km

Charging and Efficiency

Regardless of the battery chosen, the ID. Polo excels in terms of “time lost at the socket”. Charging from 10% to 80% is achieved in approximately 23-24 minutes. In addition, V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology allows the car to power external devices – from laptops to camping equipment.

Safety and Assistance: Top-Class Standards

Although it is a subcompact model, the ID. Polo borrows technologies from its bigger siblings. The safety package includes:

  • Travel Assist: Semi-autonomous driving on the highway.
  • Front Cross Traffic Assist: Essential at intersections with poor visibility.
  • One-Pedal Driving: Allows driving using almost exclusively the accelerator pedal, maximizing energy recovery.

Price and Availability: When will we see the ID. Polo on the streets of Romania?

If in Germany the official launch has already taken place on April 29, 2026, customers in Romania have very little to wait for. Although the "star" price of 24,995 euros is what made the headlines, the reality of the launch is a little more nuanced.

Launch version vs. Base model. At the debut, Volkswagen decided to rely on the "heavy artillery". The first variant available to order is the ID. Polo Life, equipped with the 211 hp engine and the 52 kWh battery.

  • Starting price (Germany): 33,795 euros.
  • Estimated price in Romania: Approximately 34,000 euros (without subsidies), considering the similar VAT rate.
  • The 25,000 euro model: The basic version (Trend) with the 37 kWh battery will be available for order later, towards the end of the year.

The calendar for Romania. Market sources and local representatives indicate massive interest. Here's what to expect:

  1. Opening of orders in RO: Estimated for May/June 2026.
  2. First deliveries: The first units are expected in showrooms in Romania in September 2026.
  3. The impact of Rabla Plus: This is the great advantage of our market. If the program maintains its structure, the price of the new ID. Polo could fall below the psychological threshold of 20,000 euros for the basic version, becoming a nightmare for competitors like the Renault 5 or the future Tesla Model 2.

The 3 Equipment Lines in brief:

Trend: Electric essentials. Includes LED headlights, 13-inch screen, and basic safety systems.
Life: Enhanced comfort. Adds alloy wheels, superior interior materials and the Travel Assist package.
Style: Top of the range. Comes with IQ.LIGHT technology, illuminated logo, massage seats and premium audio system.

Journalistic conclusion

The launch of the ID. Polo 2027 is not just about a new car, but about Volkswagen's ability to fulfill its promise to offer "EVs for all." Even though the launch model is more expensive, the 25,000 euro variant will be the one that will decide whether VW becomes the undisputed leader of European cities again.

In Romania, success will depend enormously on the speed with which Rabla Plus tickets are processed and on the ability of dealers to ensure stocks for a demand that is already forecast to be record high.

Do you think that an ID. Polo for under 20,000 euros (via Rabla) is the final argument that will convince Romanians to definitively give up the "old" city diesel?
