Volvo announces native integration into Tesla charging network: Over 20.000 stations become available in Europe

Networks unite: Volvo electric models receive native access to the Tesla Supercharger network in Europe and Romania

In a strategic move aimed at accelerating the transition to electric mobility and eliminating one of the main fears of drivers – range anxiety – Volvo Cars has officially announced the massive expansion of its charging ecosystem. Starting in the last quarter of this year, owners of the Swedish brand’s fully electric vehicles will have direct access to more than 20.000 Tesla Supercharger stations spread across the European continent.

The strategic partnership covers no less than 29 European countries and marks a major convergence in the region's charging infrastructure, radically transforming the long-distance driving experience.

One app, thousands of new fast charging points

Unlike other compromise solutions that force users to juggle multiple platforms, Volvo’s integration is completely native. Drivers will not need to use the Tesla app; instead, they will use the Volvo Cars app exclusively to locate available Supercharger stations, check connector availability in real time, initiate the charging session, and automatically make the payment.

This facility exclusively targets the Swedish manufacturer's current and future range of fully electric vehicles (BEVs), covering models recently launched on the market.

Compatible Volvo models: The new EX30 urban SUV, the EX40 and EC40 models, the upcoming EX60, the EX90 family flagship, as well as the ES90 premium sedan. Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions are not included in this agreement.

With the addition of the more than 20,000 Tesla points, Volvo users now have a huge global portfolio at their disposal, with the brand's own network already exceeding 1.2 million public charging points accessible in Europe through roaming agreements. However, the Supercharger network offers a huge competitive advantage: strategic location on Europe's major highways and an industry-recognized technical reliability rate.

What is the situation of the Tesla Supercharger infrastructure in Romania?

For local owners of Volvo electric models or for those transiting the country, the news of the integration comes at a time when the Tesla network in Romania has reached remarkable maturity, covering the main urban nodes and historical commercial routes.

Unlike the North American market, where the transition to the NACS standard required physical adapters, in Europe Tesla stations use the universal CCS2 connector, which is already used by all Volvo electric cars sold locally. This means that the physical interface is fully compatible from day one, without additional accessories.

Currently, the infrastructure of ultra-fast Tesla Supercharger stations in Romania covers key geographical points, offering charging speeds of up to 250 kW:

  • South and Capital: Bucharest has two strategic supply nodes (in the Floreasca and Mega Mall areas), complemented by the station in Pitești for the route to the west and the hubs in Craiova and Constanța.
  • Transylvania and Banat: The mountain and cross-border connection are ensured through ultra-fast stations located in Sibiu, Timișoara, Oradea and Cluj-Napoca, offering safe corridors for travel on the A1 and A3 highways.
  • North and East Zone: The network has expanded considerably to cover traffic flows from essential regions, with stations in Galați, Buzău and Satu Mare being active.

This territorial distribution ensures that a Volvo electric driver can cross Romania from east to west or from south to north relying almost exclusively on Supercharger stations. Opening this network to other manufacturers represents a huge step towards unifying the automotive market, transforming charging stations from an exclusive selling point into a modern public utility.
