Toyota has just raised the bar in the B-SUV segment with the official launch of the new 2027 Yaris Cross. Although we are talking about a facelift, the changes are not just on the facade. The Japanese manufacturer listened to market feedback and injected the small crossover with more technology, a serious dose of refinement and, perhaps most importantly, more power under the hood.
Still produced in France, the new model is ready to consolidate its leading position, offering a mix of urban agility and robustness specific to the Toyota family.
At first glance, the 2027 Yaris Cross looks more confident. The front end has been subtly redesigned, centered around a new honeycomb grille that gives it a more dynamic visual presence. Below that, a prominent black surface emphasizes the off-road style, even if its primary habitat remains the urban jungle.
Toyota has also expanded the customization palette:
The interior is undergoing a digital transformation. Toyota is introducing a new multimedia system (Toyota Smart Connect) with 7 or 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and 9 or 10.5 inches for the central display.
Aesthetically, "Platinum" inserts appear on the door panels, and materials become more environmentally friendly. The High trim introduces SakuraTouch material, an upholstery created entirely from recycled resources, without compromising on texture or durability.
The biggest technical novelty is the introduction of the Hybrid 130 propulsion system. It uses the same 1.5-liter engine, but with a larger electric motor-generator and optimized software.
| Specifications | Hybrid 115 | Hybrid 130 |
| Power Output | 116 hp | 130 hp |
| Torque | 141 Nm | 185 Nm (+30%) |
| 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) | 11.2 s | 10.7 s |
| Fuel Economy (Combined) | ~4.4 l/100 km | ~4.5 l/100 km |
| Drivetrain | Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) | FWD or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD-i) |
The GR Sport version exclusively benefits from the 130 HP engine, coming with a recalibrated suspension for a sportier driving experience and seats covered in Alcantara.
The new Yaris Cross gets even smarter with the Toyota T-Mate system. This includes the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense, now capable of over-the-air (OTA) updates. New features include:
Emergency Stop System (EDSS): Stops the car safely if the driver stops reacting.
Proactive Driving Assist: Helps with smooth deceleration in curves or maintaining distance from cyclists and pedestrians.
Although official price lists may vary slightly depending on local promotions, here's what customers in Romania can expect:
Through the Rabla program, the final price can drop significantly, making the Yaris Cross one of the most competitive hybrid options on the market.
Given the popularity of hybrid engines in Romania, the new Yaris Cross 2027 has every chance of remaining at the top of the preferences of those looking for efficiency without giving up style.
If you had to choose the new Yaris Cross, would you opt for the extra power of the Hybrid 130 version or would you prioritize the price savings of the Hybrid 115 version?
