Official depletion of funds and closure of the 2026 session

The national program for renewing the Romanian car fleet has officially come to an end for the current year. The Administration of the Environmental Fund announced the complete exhaustion of the funds allocated for the Rabla 2026 edition, marking the closing of the application session.

The last applications were registered on September 23, the date on which the last tranche of the budget for vehicles equipped with classic thermal engines and hybrids was exhausted. As for the financing lines dedicated to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the budgets had already been completely exhausted a few weeks earlier, as a result of the high demand from buyers.

Request statistics: How the over 28,000 files were divided

This year's edition confirmed the sustained interest of the population and companies in replacing old cars with new, more efficient and less polluting models. In total, over 28,000 financing applications were submitted during the Rabla 2026 session.

The breakdown of requests by vehicle category looks like this:

    ● Internal combustion and hybrid engines: Represented the highest volume of applications, with a total of 20,629 applications submitted.
    ● Electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles: Attracted 7,874 applications, demonstrating the gradual transition of buyers towards low or zero emission mobility.
    ● Motorcycles: The category dedicated to two-wheeled vehicles recorded 1,550 applications.

Allocated budgets and the impact on the Romanian automotive market

For the financial support of all files submitted in the 2026 edition, the total funds made available by the Environmental Fund Administration exceeded the threshold of 299 million lei.

The financial structure of the program was divided into three main directions:

    ● 190 million lei for the program for vehicles with thermal and hybrid engines;
    ● 94.9 million lei allocated to support the purchase of 100% electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles;
    ● 15 million lei directed exclusively to stimulating the purchase of new motorcycles.

The removal of tens of thousands of old vehicles from circulation through these funds directly contributes to the rejuvenation of the national car fleet and the reduction of carbon emissions at the national level, while also representing an important pillar for supporting new car sales on the domestic market.
