Polestar has released the first official images of the new Polestar 4 SUV, a model that promises to radically change the brand’s design approach and offer a more conventional alternative to customers in the premium electric segment. Scheduled for a full official presentation this fall, the new SUV marks a return to traditional body elements.
The current Polestar 4 stood out in the market as an unconventional crossover coupé, completely eliminating the rear window and relying solely on a roof-mounted camera that transmits images to the digital rearview mirror. While this choice allowed for optimizing headroom for rear passengers, it also attracted quite a bit of skepticism from the general public.
The new Polestar 4 SUV corrects this for those looking for a classic approach. The first official images show that the SUV variant will benefit from a completely new roof, a redesigned rear line (with a more vertical tailgate) and, most importantly, a conventional glass rear window. The Swedish brand confirms that the decision to introduce this variant is directly aimed at improving everyday utility. Polestar representatives describe the new model as bringing “an added layer of flexibility and practicality, with versatile storage capabilities for every journey”, combining the generous space of a breakdown with the versatility of a purebred SUV.
Under the new body line, the Polestar 4 SUV retains the 400V electrical architecture and high-performance powertrains of the coupé. Customers will be able to choose from the same proven versions:
With this launch, the Swedish engineers have also revised the chassis components (springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars). The changes are designed to ensure an optimal balance between refinement and sporty cornering response, settings that will be implemented in parallel on the coupé version.
The official commercial debut of the new Polestar 4 SUV is scheduled for September 2. Unlike other models assembled in China, the new SUV will be produced at the plant in Busan, South Korea, a strategic point for the Geely Group's global distribution network.
For the Romanian market, where Polestar models are mainly available through direct import channels or specialized automotive partner networks, order availability will most likely coincide with the European launch in September. The first physical deliveries to customers are estimated for the end of this year or early next year.
In terms of price, the current Polestar 4 Coupé has an indicative starting price in Europe of approximately EUR 63,200 for the single-engine version and exceeds EUR 71,000 for the Dual Motor variant (without optional packages such as Pilot, Plus or Performance). Considering the structural changes made to the body and the added utility, it is expected that the Polestar 4 SUV will have a starting price in Romania estimated in the range of EUR 65,000 - 68,000 (VAT included) for the basic equipment, with the top versions with all-wheel drive and Performance package to exceed the threshold of EUR 78,000.
