Superlative luxury: The new Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift is available in Romania. Details and official prices

The Stuttgart-based manufacturer's largest and most opulent SUV receives a refreshed design, more powerful electrified engines, and is ready to challenge for supremacy in the domestic premium segment.

Officially presented in the spring of this year, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift is now available for order on the Romanian market. The German manufacturer has prepared a series of discreet but effective exterior aesthetic revisions, along with a range of engines optimized for increased efficiency.

Three mild-hybrid engines available at launch

For starters, customers in Romania can choose from three engine options, all of which benefit from 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology. This adds a temporary 23 hp boost and extra torque during intense acceleration. The offer includes two diesel engines and one gasoline unit.

  • GLS 350d 4Matic (Diesel): The entry-level version uses a 3.0-liter engine capable of developing 313 hp and a generous 650 Nm of torque. It is the most affordable variant, with a starting price of 109,990 euros including VAT.
  • GLS 450 4Matic (Petrol): For lovers of petrol refinement, this version offers a 3.0-liter unit that develops 381 hp and 560 Nm. The list price starts at 112,410 euros.
  • GLS 450d 4Matic (Diesel): The most powerful diesel variant offers no less than 367 hp and a massive 750 Nm of torque, making it ideal for sovereign highway runs. The base price for this engine is 114,230 euros.

The battle in the luxury segment: GLS vs. BMW X7

The main traditional rival of the Stuttgart flagship remains the BMW X7. The two German titans propose slightly different approaches to the standard: Mercedes-Benz relies on the efficiency of a diesel engine for the starting price, while the Munich rival proposes a more agile gasoline unit in the same budget area, but with a slightly higher combined consumption.

Model / Version Power (hp) Combined Fuel Consumption (l/100 km) Acceleration 0-100 km/h (seconds) List Price* (Euro, with VAT)
Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d 4Matic (3.0 Diesel MHEV) 313 7.9 6.2 €109,990
BMW X7 xDrive40i (3.0 Petrol MHEV) 381 9.6 5.8 €105,633

With an extremely competitive combined fuel consumption for its size (only 7.9 liters/100 km) and an undeniable status as the "S-Class of SUVs", the new Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift aims to keep its crown in the luxury vehicle segment in Romania, offering an imposing presence and unmatched comfort.
