The new Kia Seltos 2027 arrives in Europe: a modern, compact and affordable SUV

Kia Seltos 2027: Second Generation, Historic Debut in Europe and Price Target of €27,000

South Korean manufacturer Kia has officially presented the new generation of the Seltos subcompact SUV. Although the first generation, launched in 2019, never set foot on the Old Continent, the new model changes the rules of the game, being confirmed for the European market starting in 2026. The launch comes as a strategic addition to the Kia range, directly targeting the compact SUV segment (B-SUV/C-SUV), extremely popular in Romania as well.

The new generation Kia Seltos made its global debut on December 10, 2025, and is ready to consolidate its reputation as a successful model worldwide, now bringing advanced technology and an aesthetic heavily influenced by the brand's latest electric vehicles.

Bold Design Under the Philosophy of "Opposites United"

The second-generation Seltos aligns with the brand's "Opposites United" design language, offering a body with firmer lines, sharp edges and a robust visual presence. The front is dominated by a massive "Tiger Nose" grille, flanked by slim, vertically integrated LED headlights.

For added personality, the model introduces the option of a panoramic roof and contrasting elements, such as the satin silver painted roof, which is combined with design details inspired by the off-road segment: generous protections on the wings, side sills and front/rear bumpers. The taillights are now joined by a horizontal LED strip, a modern design element that emphasizes the width of the car.

With dimensions that place it on the border between subcompact and compact (4430 mm long and 2690 mm wheelbase), the Seltos offers competitive interior space. At launch, two distinct trim lines will be available: the sporty GT-Line and the rugged-looking X-Line.

Digital and Connected Interior

The interior of the new Seltos is a major leap in technology. The most visible element is the curved panoramic screen that integrates two 12.3-inch displays, serving both the digital instrumentation and the multimedia system.

Although digitalization is emphasized, Kia has retained the essential physical controls for the climate control system, a decision appreciated by many drivers. The transmission selector has been moved behind the steering wheel, thus freeing up useful space in the center console. Top features include the 64-color ambient lighting system, premium Harman Kardon and Bose audio systems, Head-up Display, and a Digital Key.

On the safety side, the new Seltos is equipped with state-of-the-art ADAS systems, including Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) and a panoramic camera.

Engines: Hybrid, the Main Stake for Europe

The new Kia Seltos is based on the modern K3 platform and initially offers a range of three petrol engines, dedicated to the Asian and American markets:

    1.6 liter T-GDI (Turbo): 180 HP and 265 Nm (6-speed manual or 7DCT automatic).

1.6 liter T-GDI (Evolved): 193 HP and 265 Nm (8-speed automatic transmission exclusively).

2.0 liter naturally aspirated: 149 HP and 179 Nm.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is offered as an option, along with multi-link rear suspension and Terrain Mode for optimal grip on slippery surfaces.

However, for the European market, including Romania, the most important novelty will be the introduction of the Hybrid (HEV) engine from 2026. This version will be vital to comply with emission regulations and to compete effectively in the electrified SUV segment. The hybrid model is expected to include advanced technologies such as the bi-directional charging function V2L (Vehicle-to-Load), which allows powering external devices.

Romanian Market: Availability and Price Estimates

The new generation Kia Seltos will be produced starting in December 2025, and will reach European markets, including Romania, during 2026.

Availability: The Seltos will enter the Romanian market through Kia Romauto's national dealer network, the official distributor. It will be strategically positioned in the brand's range, most likely below the Kia Sportage and offering a more spacious and robust alternative to the Kia Stonic or a direct competitor to models such as the Hyundai Kona, VW T-Roc or Skoda Kamiq. The focus for Europe will be on electrified variants, especially the hybrid.

Price: Although official prices for the Romanian market are to be announced closer to the 2026 launch, initial estimates regarding the entry price for Europe target around 27,000 euros.

This price estimate, most likely applicable to the base or efficient hybrid versions, places the Seltos in a competitive position compared to its rivals, offering an attractive package of modern design, cutting-edge technology and an economical hybrid engine, essential elements for success in the Romanian market.
