The Hanover Commercial Vehicles Show marked a landmark moment for the freight transport industry. The new generation Renault Trafic Van E-Tech won the "Vehicle of the Year 2027" trophy, voted unanimously by a jury of 26 specialist journalists, representing 26 European countries.
The distinction represents the sixth title in the history of the French brand in this competition. The series of victories began in 1998 with the Master model, continued in 2002 with the Trafic II, and subsequently marked major milestones in the transition to electric mobility with the Kangoo ZE (2012), Kangoo III (2022) and Master III (2025).
The performance of the new generation Trafic Van E-Tech is supported by a major technological paradigm shift. The model is the first in its segment designed on an SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) architecture, integrating advanced operating systems that allow remote updates throughout the vehicle's life, proactive predictive diagnostics and streamlined fleet management.
Under the body, the van is equipped with an electric motor with 150 kW (204 hp) and 345 Nm of torque, providing a payload of up to 1.25 tons and a towing capacity of 2 tons. The 800-volt electrical architecture allows the battery to be quickly recharged from 15% to 80% in just 20 minutes, while the extended-capacity battery version offers a range of up to 470 kilometers. The vehicle also includes bidirectional charging technologies V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid), allowing electrical equipment to be powered directly from the car's battery.
On the Romanian market, the new Trafic Van E-Tech is ready for launch, with orders to be opened towards the end of this year, and first deliveries scheduled for early next year. The model will be offered in several body options (L1 and L2 length versions), adapted to different transport needs.
Estimated prices for the local market start at around 34,000 euros (excluding VAT) for the basic version with standard battery and can reach over 45,000 euros (excluding VAT) for the extended range and higher equipment versions. The purchase can be combined with government subsidies for zero-emission commercial vehicles, significantly reducing the total cost for companies.
