The new BMW iX3, the pioneer of the revolutionary Neue Klasse platform, has started the year with a bang. Officially named “World Car of the Year 2026” and driven by over 50,000 orders worldwide, the Bavarian electric SUV has already prompted the Debrecen plant to introduce a second shift to cope with the massive demand.
Although European deliveries only began in March, in just two months the model broke the ice on the market, exceeding the symbolic threshold of 10,000 units sold.
By the end of April, official statistics show 10,299 iX3 units delivered in Europe. This early performance puts it squarely in front of some heavyweight rivals in the segment:
An extremely interesting statistic provided by the manufacturer shows that a third of buyers (around 33%) are in their first contact with the BMW brand, which demonstrates a huge capacity to win over new customers from the competition thanks to the new digital ecosystem and 800V recharging technology.
In Romania, the new iX3 is not only selling excellently for the premium electric segment, but has already achieved a historic performance. At the gala organized by AutoExpert Media in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, the Bavarian model received the supreme title: "The Best Electric Car in Romania 2026".
Beyond the awards, the local public was convinced by the real-life range tests organized on the country's roads. In a recent test on the Bucharest - Poiana Brașov route and return (approximately 400 km traveled without any hassle, including a session on the Prejmer circuit), the iX3 fleet completed the route without any recharging on the road, the cars having between 25% and 31% energy in the battery upon arrival. The top 50 xDrive version promises a huge official WLTP range of up to 805 km.
Native efficiency: The secret to autonomy lies in the dedicated electrical architecture and the introduction of a heat pump as standard equipment. This keeps consumption low even in winter conditions, eliminating the massive energy losses specific to previous generations.
The official prices reflect the massive technological leap and the model's repositioning as a range leader. On the Romanian market, the configurator starts at the basic European threshold, but can quickly climb depending on the optional packages (such as the extended panoramic screen or BMW Individual finishes):
| Model Version | Battery (Usable) | Maximum Power | Starting Price (Approx.) |
| BMW iX3 40 (RWD, Entry-level) | 82.6 kWh | ~340 hp | from €68,900 |
| BMW iX3 50 xDrive (AWD) | 108.7 kWh | 469 hp | from €78,900 |
| BMW iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro | 108.7 kWh | 469 hp | €87,000 – €97,000 (with options) |
Major interest in Romania has already exhausted the first quotas allocated for spring and summer of this year, with local dealers currently taking orders with delivery dates scheduled for the end of the year and the beginning of next year.
