The future Mercedes-Benz VLE has a launch date: the first electric MPV is coming in March 2026

Mercedes-Benz VLE 2026: The electric revolution of the German "Grand Limousine" arrives in Romania

The Stuttgart-based automaker has stepped on the accelerator in the electrification process, officially confirming the launch date for one of its most ambitious projects: the Mercedes-Benz VLE. Conceived as an electric “Grand Limousine”, this model is not just a utility vehicle, but a luxurious reinterpretation of passenger transportation, promising to redefine standards of comfort and efficiency.

The official launch of the new Mercedes-Benz VLE is scheduled for March 10, 2026 .

VAN.EA Platform: 800V Technology and Record Autonomy

The new VLE (short for Van Luxury Electric) is the first model developed on the dedicated VAN.EA architecture. Unlike previous models that used adapted platforms, VAN.EA is a modular structure built from the ground up for 100% electric propulsion.

Here are the main technical details that make the VLE a revolutionary model:

  • 800-volt architecture: This enables ultra-fast charging speeds. In a recent endurance test, a VLE prototype covered 1,090 km (on the Stuttgart-Rome route) with just two charging stops of 15 minutes each.
  • Autonomy: It is estimated that the production versions will exceed the 500 km threshold (WLTP).
  • Capacity: The model will offer configurations of up to 8 seats, making it ideal for both large families and VIP transfer services.
  • Driving systems: It will feature Level 2 autonomous driving at launch, with plans to upgrade to Level 3 by the end of the decade.

The connection with Romania: Engines "Made in Sebeș"

Although the main production of the vehicle will take place at the plant in Vitoria, Spain, Romania plays a crucial role in the "heart" of this model.

The local division of Mercedes-Benz, through the Star Assembly plant in Sebeș, has been selected to produce electric propulsion units for the new generations of vehicles based on the MB.EA and VAN.EA platforms. Thus, the engines that will set the future VLE in motion will be, for the most part, manufactured in Romania, strengthening our country's position in the global electric mobility value chain.

Estimated price: How much will electric luxury cost?

Although official price lists will only be published near the March 2026 debut, automotive analysts and market sources estimate a starting price commensurate with the premium features.

Model Estimated Starting Price
Mercedes-Benz VLE approx. €70,000 – €75,000
Mercedes-Benz VLS (ultra-luxury version) over €100,000

In Romania, the price could be influenced by subsidies offered through the Rabla Plus program, although the financing thresholds for luxury electric cars are in continuous legislative dynamics.

Design of the future

The latest teaser image released by Mercedes-Benz reveals a spectacular light signature: the LED headlights graphically integrate the three-pointed star shape, the brand's iconic symbol. With retractable door handles (which retract into the body) and an extremely aerodynamic silhouette, the VLE promises to be as quiet as it is elegant.
