After a long series of delays that stretched the patience of fans for almost a decade, the American manufacturer Tesla has officially lifted the curtain on the long-awaited second generation Roadster. Originally announced as a concept in 2017 and repeatedly delayed from its original 2020 launch date, the brand's new electric supercar promises to completely redefine the limits of physics in the production car segment. The model not only brings unprecedented technical specifications, but also a series of engineering solutions directly inspired by the aerospace industry.
Compared to the prototype presented nine years ago, the production version of the new Tesla Roadster marks a profound change in aesthetic vision, abandoning rounded shapes in favor of an aggressive visual identity.
● Geometric styling language: The entire body adopts a sharp design, directly inspired by the futuristic lines of the Cybertruck. All surfaces are defined by sharp angles and smooth panels, the only exception being the curved roof line.
● Front and rear details: The headlights are cleverly hidden behind retractable covers and have a distinctive triangular shape. The rear is extremely aggressive, integrating active aerodynamic elements and a design designed to maximize airflow at extreme speeds.
The most fascinating aspect of the new generation Roadster is not just about the classic electric propulsion, but about the implementation of unprecedented technologies on a production vehicle intended for public circulation (with subsequent regulations).
● Roadster Rocket Technology: Although it is a purely electric model, the rear displays four tailpipes reminiscent of exhaust mufflers. These actually hide four cold gas engines, a system designed to lift the car off the ground and allow for short controlled “flights” over short distances, although the manufacturer states that this function is not currently homologated for public roads.
● 2G ground effect: A huge fan has been integrated under the floor of the car, capable of generating a massive ground effect. This gives the car extraordinary downforce, ensuring lateral grip of up to 2G in tight corners.
● Active aerodynamics: The package is completed by a retractable spoiler and an active rear spoiler, which changes its position depending on the driving mode. Inside, the atmosphere is minimalist and avionic, dominated by a yoke-shaped steering wheel and a single central screen that controls all the vehicle's functions.
In terms of pure performance, the new generation Roadster shatters any previous reference in the global automotive industry, becoming the fastest production model ever created by the company led by Elon Musk.
● Record-breaking acceleration: The electric model reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in less than a second (an official estimated time of under 1.0 seconds), a value that places the car in the territory of extreme competition vehicles.
● Mysterious propulsion: Although the performances have been officially confirmed, Tesla has so far kept the full technical details related to the exact power of the electric motors and the battery capacity under wraps, with these data to be revealed as we get closer to the start of production.
Tesla has confirmed that official production of the new generation Roadster is scheduled to begin in 2028, meaning the first customers will be able to take possession of their cars at the end of the decade.
● Estimated global and local prices: Even though official price lists have not yet been published, the brand's positioning as the absolute pinnacle of performance and the complexity of the integrated technologies (including the cold gas rocket package and advanced aerodynamics) suggest a starting price that will far exceed conventional supercar standards.
● Internationally, the base value is estimated to be around the $250,000 threshold, while special launch editions (similar to the Founders Edition series) could climb to $300,000.
● For the Romanian market, taking into account import duties, 19% VAT and logistics delivery costs for such a niche vehicle, a new copy will likely cost between 280,000 and 350,000 euros (VAT included), transforming the new Roadster into one of the most exclusive and expensive cars present on the roads in the country.
