The strategic partnership between Suzuki and Toyota continues to bear fruit, and the latest proof is the official launch of the second generation Suzuki Across. The new model, a mid-size SUV with plug-in hybrid powertrain (PHEV), promises to combine the brand's legendary reliability with cutting-edge technology borrowed from its platform "brother", the Toyota RAV4.
Scheduled to reach the European market later this year, the new Across is not just a simple rebranding, but a statement of strength in an increasingly competitive segment.
If the first generation was shyly distinguished from the RAV4, the 2026 model adopts a much more aggressive aesthetic. Suzuki chose to base the new Across on the lines of the RAV4 Adventure version, which gives it a much more "muscular" appearance.
Front: Dominated by a generously sized hexagonal grille and a restyled bumper, the LED headlights receive a new C-shaped light signature, giving a more “frowning” and modern look.
Profile: The wheel arches have a pronounced trapezoidal shape, protected by hard plastic elements, emphasizing the character of an adventure-ready SUV.
Rear: It benefits from redesigned LED taillights and a protective shield integrated into the rear bumper, flanked by secondary lights.
The color palette remains sober and elegant, offering four metallic options: Massive Gray, Super White, Attitude Black and the new Ever Rest (a shade of dusty blue).
Inside, the Toyota influence is evident, but Suzuki adds generous standard features. The cabin is designed for comfort, using soft-touch materials and ergonomics designed for long journeys.
| Feature | Technical Details |
| Instrument Cluster | Fully digital 12.3-inch display, customizable layout. |
| Infotainment System | 12.9-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. |
| Connectivity | 5 USB-C ports and standard wireless smartphone charging. |
| Boot Capacity | 445 liters (expandable by folding the rear seats). |
| Cabin Comfort | Dual-zone climate control, heated front/rear seats, and heated steering wheel. |
| Access | Smart keyless entry and hands-free electric tailgate with kick sensor. |
An important novelty is the electrically operated tailgate with foot sensor, an extremely useful feature when your hands are busy.
The new Suzuki Across 2026 remains faithful to the plug-in hybrid system that made it famous, offering performance figures worthy of a sports SUV. The propulsion system consists of a 2.5-liter combustion engine (141 hp) and two electric motors.
Front Electric Motor: 201 HP
Rear Electric Motor: 54 HP
Total Combined Power: 302 HP
This assembly allows the SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, a top speed limited to 180 km/h and, most importantly, intelligent all-wheel drive through the E-Four system.
The 2026 update brings a larger battery, with a capacity of 22.7 kWh. Although the official WLTP electric range is yet to be confirmed for this new package, it is expected to exceed the 75-80 km threshold, allowing for daily commuting without consuming a drop of petrol.
Safety is a central pillar for the new generation. In addition to the reinforced structure, Across comes standard with:
Pre-Collision System: Detects vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.
Adaptive Cruise Control: Automatically maintains the distance from the car in front.
Lane Tracing Assist: Keeps the car in the center of the lane.
360 camera with 3D view (Optional): For safe maneuvers in tight spaces.
The new Across 2026 is positioned as a premium alternative in the Suzuki range, essentially offering a 'full options' RAV4 under a logo that promises a more direct approach and, possibly, shorter delivery times.
Although Suzuki Romania has not yet displayed the official list prices for the 2026 configuration, indications from the European market and the partnership with Toyota allow us to outline a fairly precise scenario.
Price Estimates
The new Suzuki Across is positioned, as before, at the top of the brand's pyramid, usually offered in a "full options" configuration. If we look at the prices in the rest of Europe and those of the "cousin" Toyota RAV4 PHEV, we can estimate the following:
Estimated starting price: Between €54,000 and €58,000 (VAT included).
Comparison: This amount may seem high, but the Across comes standard with features that cost thousands of euros more at other manufacturers (E-Four all-wheel drive, heated front/rear seats, heated steering wheel, all safety systems included).
Government bonuses: In Romania, the final price will be significantly influenced by the Rabla Plus program. Given that it is a low-emission plug-in hybrid, customers can benefit from the eco-ticket, which could lower the actual purchase price towards the €50,000 threshold.
Availability in showrooms in Romania
Market sources indicate that the new model will be available to admire and order in Romania starting in the spring or summer of 2026.
Official launch: Expected towards the end of the first quarter.
Deliveries: The first units could reach customers in the second half of the year.
Strategy: Suzuki is banking on better stock availability than similar Toyota models, trying to attract customers who are not willing to wait 6-12 months for delivery of a car.
The new generation Suzuki Across demonstrates that the partnership between Suzuki and Toyota has gone beyond the stage of a simple collaboration of necessity, transforming into a winning strategy for the European consumer. The Across 2026 is no longer just the "brother" of the RAV4, but an alternative with its own personality, which relies on a more robust appearance and an extremely simplified equipment policy for the customer: everything included.
In a car market where additional options can inflate the price of a car by tens of thousands of euros, the Suzuki Across comes as a breath of fresh air, offering top performance (302 HP) and cutting-edge PHEV technology in a complete package. For the Romanian driver, this model represents the ideal transitional solution: enough electric autonomy for the suffocating urban traffic of Bucharest or Cluj, but also the power necessary for safe overtaking on national roads.
Although the price puts it in the premium segment, the Across justifies its position with the reliability of Toyota's hybrid system, coupled with aggressive "Adventure" aesthetics and Suzuki's service network, known for fair maintenance costs. It is, without a doubt, the most refined and powerful car Suzuki has ever put on the road, being a formidable competitor to any plug-in hybrid SUV in its class.
