The year 2025 marked a turning point for the BMW Group, which not only consolidated its leading position in the premium segment against traditional rivals, but also demonstrated that the future of the MINI brand is inextricably linked to electric mobility. With a total volume of 288,290 units sold worldwide, the British manufacturer recorded robust growth of 17.7% compared to the previous year.
The brand's most resounding achievement in 2025 is surpassing the psychological threshold of 100,000 electric units delivered. To be precise, 105,535 customers opted for a zero-emission MINI model, which represents a spectacular increase of 87.9% compared to 2024.
Currently, every third MINI sold globally is electric, a share that even exceeds 50% in visionary markets such as the Netherlands, China or Sweden.
The success was supported by a diversified range, where the "go-kart feeling" spirit was intertwined with modern utility:
MINI Countryman: Remains the most popular model, with 93,305 units (+15.2%), representing almost a third of the brand's sales. Its electric variant practically exploded, with an increase of 81.8%.
MINI Cooper family: The 3- and 5-door models, along with the Cabriolet, totaled 162,789 units (+10.3%). The new MINI Cooper Cabriolet, launched in 2025, brought a breath of fresh air to the segment.
John Cooper Works (JCW): The performance division set a historic record with 25,630 units (+59.5%), demonstrating that the passion for speed remains an essential component of the British DNA.
While MINI soared to the heights of success globally, the Romanian market offered a more nuanced landscape in 2025. Although total new car registrations increased slightly nationally (approx. +1.6%), the 100% electric car (BEV) segment felt the full impact of the drastic reduction in subsidies through the Rabla Plus program.
Local Sales and Trends
Evolution: After a steep decline in the first half of the year, the Romanian market recovered towards the end of 2025. However, unlike the rest of the world, Romanians massively migrated to Full Hybrid and Mild-Hybrid models, which came to dominate over 55% of the market.
MINI Positioning: The brand remains a style and status choice in Romania. Electric models continued to attract customers from the urban "early adopters" segment, despite the overall 9% decline in the electric segment nationwide.
Prices and Offers in Romania (2025)
Prices for the new generation MINI reflect the integration of cutting-edge technologies:
MINI Cooper Electric: Launched in 2025 from around 34,000 - 36,000 Euros (without subsidies).
MINI Countryman: Prices for the British SUV ranged from 38,000 to over 50,000 Euros for the JCW or fully electric versions.
MINI Select system: Dealers have relied on attractive installments (approx. 280-350 Euros/month), facilitating customers' access to the new models through flexible financial products.
The year 2025 has shown that MINI is no longer just a niche brand for enthusiasts, but a major player in the energy transition. With growth of almost 18% and an unprecedented electric offensive, the British manufacturer seems to have found the perfect recipe between tradition and innovation.
