Skoda Superb celebrates 25 years since the debut of the modern generation

Skoda is marking a jubilee milestone in its recent history: the 25th anniversary of the presentation of the first modern generation of the Superb. The name has a deep historical resonance for the Mladá Boleslav-based manufacturer, having been used for the first time in 1934 for the Skoda 640 Superb and maintained in production under various body styles until 1949.

The name was revived on September 11, 2001, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then, the Czech brand's flagship sedan has been produced in four successive generations, accumulating sales of approximately 1.8 million units worldwide.

Four generations marked by technological innovation

The evolution of the model reflects the technological development of the entire group of which it is part:

• First generation (2001 – 2008): Developed on a technical platform closely related to the Volkswagen Passat, it set new standards in the segment in terms of rear legroom.
• Second generation (2008 – 2015): It brought for the first time the Combi body version and the patented TwinDoor system, which allowed the tailgate to be opened both like a classic sedan and with a rear window.
• Third generation (2015 – 2023): Marked a shift towards a more aggressive design language, advanced assistance systems (ADAS) and the debut of electrification in 2019, through the plug-in hybrid version Superb iV.
• Fourth generation (2023 – present): Offers the most diverse range of engines (gasoline, diesel, mild-hybrid and PHEV), along with state-of-the-art Matrix LED headlights and digitalized interior ergonomics.

Long-term success on the Romanian market

On the Romanian market, the Skoda Superb enjoyed an excellent reception from the very beginning, quickly becoming one of the most popular models in the mid-range class. Romanian buyers particularly appreciated the ratio between the generous dimensions of the passenger compartment, the huge volume of the trunk and the noticeably more affordable purchase price compared to rivals in the premium segment.

The model has established itself as a reference choice in the corporate fleets of large companies, in the car fleet of state institutions, but also in the preferences of private customers looking for a comfortable family car for long journeys. The versions equipped with TDI diesel engines and all-wheel drive have historically represented the core of sales on the local market.
