Formula 1 launches first Safety Car with variable all-wheel drive

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 30 years of official presence in the Grand Prix by introducing the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The car brings impressive figures and an absolute technological first for the track.

The Hungarian Grand Prix marks a turning point on the Hungaroring circuit. In addition to the intense battles between the single-seaters, the attention of motorsport enthusiasts also turns to the pit lane, where the new Formula 1 Safety Car makes its official debut: the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+.

The German model takes over from the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (used since 2022) and marks a jubilee milestone: 30 years since the German giant has provided the official safety car in the most prestigious motor racing competition in the world.

A historic first: Variable all-wheel drive

The biggest innovation that the new Safety Car brings to the grid is the variable all-wheel drive system — an absolute first in the history of Formula 1 Safety Cars. This technology guarantees maximum grip and exemplary stability on any type of asphalt or weather conditions on the Hungaroring.

Under the hood lies an engine capable of astonishing performance:

    ● Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8
    ● Power: 612 horsepower (HP)
    ● Maximum torque: 850 Nm
    ● Transmission: 9-speed automatic
    ● Maximum speed: 317 km/h

To quickly stop this brute force and withstand the extreme temperatures on the track, the car is equipped with high-performance ceramic compound brake discs.

Bernd Mayländer's 300 km/h office

The vehicle will be driven, as usual, by German Bernd Mayländer, the official driver of the Safety Car in Formula 1. His mission is a critical one: maintaining a pace fast enough so that the cars behind do not lose temperature from their tires and brakes during the neutralization periods.

"The safety car must be at the limit of performance to be able to dictate the pace of Formula 1 single-seaters. The new GT 63 Pro offers exactly the level of stability and power we need in critical moments."

For the safety and comfort of the pilot, the interior has been transformed into a true racing cockpit, equipped with:

    ● Recaro competition bucket seats
    ● Full rollcage
    ● Pirelli P Zero R high-performance tires

Cutting-edge technology and integrated aerodynamics

In addition to the impressive mechanical package, the new Safety Car also comes with aesthetic and functional innovations. The warning lights and rotating beacons have been ingeniously integrated into the rear wing, thus optimizing airflow.

Inside, the car functions as a mobile command center permanently connected to Race Direction. It is equipped with sophisticated radio communication systems, video cameras for live broadcasts and a dedicated GPS system for millimeter-level monitoring on the circuit.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is ready to start at the Hungaroring, ready to guarantee the safety of the fastest drivers in the world.
