The global and local automotive markets are taking a decisive step towards a new stage of symbiosis between traditional automakers and technology giants. Japanese automaker Mazda has officially announced the integration of Google's advanced artificial intelligence-based voice assistant Gemini directly into its popular SUV, the Mazda CX-5. With this move, the Hiroshima-based brand offers drivers a completely redefined digital experience, emphasizing natural interaction and complete safety while driving.
The new generation Mazda CX-5, recently launched on international markets and in Romania, becomes the first model in the Japanese manufacturer's portfolio to benefit from this top capability, thanks to its software architecture based on the integrated Google system.
● Over-the-air update: The new smart assistant replaces the old Google Assistant and can be downloaded by owners for free via the Google Play app store, directly on the car's 12.9-inch central screen, through a simple over-the-air (OTA) update.
● Natural conversational interaction: Gemini eliminates the need for rigid or predefined voice commands. Drivers can communicate naturally, using common phrases. For example, a command such as "It's cold in the car and the windows are misted up" will be instantly interpreted by the system, which will automatically adjust the climate control.
● Intelligent entertainment and planning: The assistant can manage multimedia preferences according to the user's mood, play audiobooks from where they were interrupted or help plan complex routes via Google Maps, without the driver having to take their attention off the road.
On the Romanian market, the new generation Mazda CX-5 enjoys sustained public interest, being marketed in a structured range of equipment levels that cover a wide range of preferences and budgets.
● Starting prices: The entry point into the range (basic Prime Line equipment) starts at a list price of around 32,690 euros, frequently benefiting from promotional campaigns and commercial discounts that lower the purchase threshold to around 28,690 euros (including VAT).
● Generous standard equipment: Regardless of the equipment line chosen, the SUV impresses with its high level of equipment: automatic transmission included as standard, the generous 12.9-inch central screen with the integrated Google package, a spacious 583-liter trunk (extendable to over 2,000 liters), split-folding seatback (4:2:4) and a towing capacity of up to 2,000 kilograms. The i-Activsense active safety package, which includes adaptive cruise control, also comes fully integrated. Higher equipment levels add premium finishes, sustainable materials and advanced audio systems.
The compact SUV (C-SUV) segment is, without a doubt, one of the most contested categories on the Romanian automotive market, attracting buyers through a balanced mix of space, versatility and technology.
● Main competitors: The Mazda CX-5 is competing for supremacy against extremely popular models on the Romanian market, such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage or Ford Kuga. While Asian rivals are heavily relying on hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines, Mazda manages to differentiate itself through a sophisticated exterior design (Kodo philosophy), superior driving dynamics and classic mechanical refinement, now complemented by the latest software innovations in the industry, such as the integration of Google Gemini artificial intelligence.
● Market positioning: By introducing the free AI-based assistant and the extended warranty package offered in the network of authorized dealers in Romania (including 6-year or 150,000 kilometer packages), Mazda is strengthening its position as a refined and highly technological alternative to European and Asian competition.
