Chinese auto giant Geely is aggressively expanding its presence on the old continent. The group's latest bet is the Geely E2, a subcompact electric hatchback designed to democratize access to zero-emission urban mobility. The model promises an extremely competitive starting price of around 19,900 euros.
The new model is known in its home market of China as the Xingyuan (where it is sold under the Geome brand), while in the UK and other international markets it will adopt the EX2 designation. The B-segment hatchback will officially debut on the European market in October, with the first country selected for launch being Italy.
The Geely E2 is not a simple export experiment, but a model already validated by massive sales figures. In the Chinese market, it was the brand's best-selling car in 2025, recording a record volume of over 465,000 units sold. The success continues in 2026, with the first half of the year already reporting sales of over 160,000 units.
Although the European debut will initially focus on Italy this fall, Geely's official importer in Romania is set to introduce the new E2 to the local portfolio shortly thereafter. The model will most likely be available in showrooms in the country towards the end of this year or early next year.
The price for the Romanian market should respect the European volume strategy, positioning itself extremely close to the threshold of 19,900 euros (VAT included, before the application of any government subsidies through the Rabla Plus program). At this price level, the Geely E2 will enter into direct competition with the Dacia Spring, but also with the new affordable European electric models such as the Citroën e-C3 or the Renault 5 E-Tech.
The official presence of the Chinese brand in Romania has rapidly consolidated, with the national dealer network already offering a diverse range of modern SUVs, from gasoline engines and plug-in hybrids, to 100% electric variants:
| Model | Body Style / Powertrain | Estimated Starting Price (VAT included) |
| Geely Coolray | Subcompact SUV (B-SUV) / 1.5 Turbo Gasoline (172 hp) | from €28,490 |
| Geely Cityray | Compact SUV (C-SUV) / 1.5 Turbo Gasoline (174 hp) | from ~€28,990 |
| Geely Starray EM-i | Compact SUV / Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) (218 hp) | from €29,990 (with promotional discounts) |
| Geely EX5 BEV | Compact SUV / 100% Electric (218 hp) | from €42,990 |
By bringing the new E2 hatchback, Geely is directly targeting the most contested volume segment in Europe, offering the space and technology of a B-class model at a price specific to much smaller urban cars.
