From 550.000 euros to 40 million - the astronomical amount paid for the first series electric Ferrari

Auctioned for $40 Million: First Production Ferrari Luce Sets Historic Record for Charity

The automotive world holds its breath as Monterey Car Week opens its doors, but this year's edition will go down in history thanks to a gesture that is as extravagant as it is generous. The first production example of the new Ferrari Luce — the first zero-emission model in the history of the Maranello brand — was auctioned at RM Sotheby's for a staggering $40 million. All proceeds will go to the Italian brand's charitable foundation.

A passion of tens of millions for good deeds

The buyer behind this astronomical sum is Dr. Herbert Wertheim, an 87-year-old American billionaire and ophthalmologist. Although the list price of a Ferrari Luce is around 550,000 euros, Wertheim chose to pay almost 70 times more. The decision has a twofold purpose: to support the noble causes supported by Ferrari and to obtain massive tax breaks specific to philanthropic donations.

For Wertheim, the gesture has already become a tradition at Monterey Car Week. Last year, the American bid $26 million for a one-off Ferrari Daytona SP3, money also going to charity.

Unique design signed by the Tailor Made division

The first production unit of the electric car is not only a symbol of technological transition, but also a unique collector's item. The example purchased by Wertheim stands out with custom-made aesthetic details:

   ● Exclusive bodywork: Finished in the special Madreperla Semi-Gloss shade.

   ● Alloy wheels: Painted in pure white, creating a strong visual contrast.

   ● Tailor-made cabin: Interior customized down to the smallest detail by the exclusive Ferrari Tailor Made division.

With this record-breaking transaction, Ferrari Luce marks a new era of electrification for the Italian manufacturer and proves that the passion for hypercars can generate a tangible impact in support of the community.
