The project, worth over 58 million lei, will cover a significant part of the factory's energy needs and reduce the carbon footprint by thousands of tons of CO2 annually.
The Dacia plant in Mioveni is taking a decisive step towards decarbonization and increasing energy independence by building a large-scale photovoltaic plant. The project, designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the car production process, is supported by European funds.
The total value of the project amounts to 58.3 million lei (approximately 11.7 million euros). On August 19, the automaker formalized the initiative by signing the financing contract with the Ministry of Energy. The project benefits from a non-refundable aid of almost 10 million lei provided through the Modernization Fund.
Through this investment, Dacia aims not only to reduce its ecological footprint, but also to protect production capacities from energy market fluctuations, utilizing solar resources directly at the point of consumption.
The new solar power plant will have an installed capacity of 8.5 MW and is designed to generate, on average, approximately 9,094 MWh of renewable electricity annually. This amount will cover approximately 8% of the total energy consumption of the Mioveni industrial platform.
Projected long-term emissions savings and production include:
● Estimated operating life: 20 years.
● Total lifetime production: Over 181,800 MWh of green energy.
● Emission reduction: A minus of 5,565 tons of CO2 equivalent in the atmosphere each year.
The design and installation works are structured so that the photovoltaic power plant will be put into operation by the end of 2026. The contractual framework also provides for a flexibility clause that allows the implementation period to be extended until December 31, 2028, in case technical adjustments are necessary during the works.
The initiative from Mioveni is part of the brand's global sustainability strategy, marking a concrete transition towards a cleaner automotive industry right from the assembly line.
