German group Brabus is once again pushing the boundaries of marine engineering with the launch of the new Ultima 55, a luxury catamaran measuring approximately 17 meters in length, developed in partnership with the prestigious shipyard Sunreef Yachts. The project marks the beginning of a collaboration between the two brands and represents the first step taken by Brabus CEO Constantin Buschmann into the exclusive segment of twin-hull yachts.
From a technical point of view, the Ultima 55 represents a radical change from the brand's previous boats. Instead of a classic monohull hull, Sunreef has designed a catamaran equipped with an advanced hydrofoil system.
At high speeds, these hydrofoils generate lift and partially lift the ship, reducing the surface area in contact with the water. The result is a considerable reduction in forward resistance, superior stability in waves and a noticeably smoother sailing experience.
Propulsion is provided by two 6-cylinder engines, each delivering 725 hp. With a combined power of 1,450 hp, the Ultima 55 can exceed 40 knots (approximately 74 km/h), a remarkable performance for a catamaran in this class.
The exterior aesthetic language borrows emblematic elements from the world of Brabus high-performance cars. Lightweight and durable materials dominate the architecture: carbon fiber is used prominently on the roof, on the air intakes and in the housings of the lighting elements. Customers have the option of exterior finishes such as Graphite Black or Phantom Gray, combined with upholstery in brand-specific shades: Graphite, Red or Pearl.
Inside, the yacht maintains the “Masterpiece” craftsmanship approach. The cabin combines fine Moonstone leather decorated with Brabus-specific triangular stitching, Alcantara inserts and carbon fiber accents.
The centerpiece of the control area is an integrated panoramic screen, through which the navigation systems and boat functions are managed. For the comfort of those on board, standard equipment includes:
● A fully equipped galley;
● A 43-inch TV with an electric folding system;
● A high-fidelity audio system by Bowers & Wilkins.
One of the ship's most spectacular features is the flexibility of the aft area. Folding side platforms increase the width of the stern from 5.6 meters to almost 7.6 meters, creating a generous "beach club" style relaxation space, positioned right at water level.
Depending on the owner’s preferences, the Ultima 55 can be configured to accommodate 4 or 6 passengers in luxurious accommodation, while also offering a separate cabin dedicated to the crew. With this launch, Brabus and Sunreef Yachts manage to combine the pure speed of a performance yacht with the comfort and generous space characteristic of a modern catamaran.
