DINGOLFING, Germany – BMW officially started series production of the new 7 Series facelift (LCI) at its flagship plant in Dingolfing, Lower Bavaria, today, July 1, 2026. Described by the German manufacturer as “the most comprehensive model update in the company’s history,” the new flagship refreshes the luxury sedan segment by integrating, for the first time in a current model, revolutionary technologies borrowed from the upcoming Neue Klasse vehicle family.
The new model is already available for order on the Romanian market, offering a digital and aesthetic preview of the brand's future.
Presented for the first time this spring, the new BMW 7 Series facelift offers a discreetly restyled front end, dominated by the new "Iconic Glow" grille and minimalist optical blocks with crystal elements. But the real revolution lies inside, where the cabin has been completely redesigned to bring the user experience closer to Neue Klasse standards.
Among the most important technological innovations are:
The Dingolfing plant, BMW's largest production center in Europe, has benefited from investments in the tens of millions of euros to integrate this facelift. The new 7 Series is assembled in Hall 52, on the same flexible line where the BMW 5 Series and the BMW iX electric SUV are produced. This system allows for the free combination of petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and electric versions on the production line.
An industry first: The manufacturer introduces the Dual-Finish paint option, which combines matte and glossy surfaces (such as the Tanzanite Blue shade) on the same body. The process takes 75 hours in the paint shop — six times longer than a standard paint job — and involves meticulous handwork by more than 20 specialists.
Key components such as the axles and electric drive systems for the i7 range are produced in-house in Dingolfing. In addition, from an ecological point of view, the plant uses electricity exclusively from renewable sources, a significant part of which is generated directly by a massive 11 MWp photovoltaic system installed on the factory roof at the end of last year.
The new BMW 7 Series facelift can already be configured and ordered at official dealers in Romania.
At launch, the sedan is available in four engine options, with a strong focus on electrification. Customers can choose from three fully electric versions (i7) and a single petrol-powered version.
The first demonstration cars will arrive in showrooms in Romania in the coming weeks, with actual deliveries to customers set to begin in the fall of this year. Later, during the next year, the range will be expanded with additional engines (including diesel and plug-in hybrid), followed by the long-awaited luxury ALPINA version (G72).
