BMW has just unveiled the new 5 Series and i5 G60 models

The BMW 5 Series G60 is the new benchmark of elegance and performance. BMW recently launched the newest model in their flagship series, the 5 Series G60. BMW will also offer an all-electric variant for the 5 Series for the first time. This is called the i5 and will be available in two versions at launch. The most affordable model is called the BMW i5 eDrive 40 and has a single electric motor that provides traction to the rear wheels. This engine develops 240 horsepower and a torque of 400 Nm, and in boost mode it develops a torque of 430 Nm for a very short short period. The BMW i5 eDrive 40 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6 seconds, slightly faster than the competition Mercedes EQE 350. Both the new BMW i5 eDrive 40 and the i5 M60 share the same battery pack. They have a usable capacity of 81.2 kWh, which is less than the 89 kWh capacity that the Mercedes EQE is equipped with. BMW claims the eDrive 40 has a range of up to 580 km, close to the 600 km range of the Mercedes EQE 300 competition. The BMW i5 M60 has a range of 500 km, less than the eDrive 40, but more than the 450 of km that Mercedes EQE has for the AMG 53 variant.

The trunk of the new BMW 5 Series G60 has a volume of 520 liters which is 10 liters less compared to the previous model which offered 530 liters. Unfortunately, in the electric version of the BMW i5 G60, the volume of the trunk is even smaller because the electric motors and batteries occupy the space under its floor, thus the volume is 490 liters. On the bright side, BMW has confirmed that an i5 Touring combi variant will be available next spring.

The new BMW 5 Series G60 model can be ordered right now and the starting price is 56 thousand euros for the 520i version. The electric variant BMW i5 eDrive 40 starts from 85 thousand euros while the i5 M60 model costs over 110 thousand euros. Hybrid variants 530e and 550e will be available in early 2024, both are plug-in hybrids and have a range of up to 100 km in electric mode.
